He gave us new life in Him, not because we earned it but because of His love and mercy. In Christ, we are children of God - we are no longer who we were. However, we still find ourselves in our sinful flesh surrounded by a broken world. God's work of transforming us and working through us for His good plans is a process.

It is a process of becoming who we are.
